Janet Jokela

Senior Associate Dean of Engagement, Carle Illinois College of Medicine

As a board-certified internal medicine and infectious disease physician, Dr. Jokela serves as Senior Associate Dean of Engagement at the Carle Illinois College of Medicine and co-chair of the Brasillinois Health and Medicine cluster at the University of Illinois System. Prior positions, amongst others, include Head of the Department of Medicine, Internal Medicine Residency Program Director, and Acting Regional Dean for the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign.


In addition to medical education, her interests include public health and infectious diseases, advocacy for underserved communities, and public health communication. Service to the profession has included Governor of the American College of Physicians (ACP) Downstate Region Illinois Chapter, ACP Board of Regents, and ACP Treasurer. Dr. Jokela has been recognized as an ACP Master, Fellow in the Infectious Disease Society of America, and Fellow in the Royal College of Physicians (London). She aims to serve patients, her community, and society in all that she does.
