Lance Black

Sr. Associate Dean of Innovation & Strategic Projects, Texas A & M
Dr. Lance Black is the Senior Associate Dean of Innovation and Strategic Projects at Texas A&M School of Engineering Medicine (EnMed), where he works at the intersection of medical education, engineering, and healthcare innovation. A physician-engineer and former U.S. Air Force flight surgeon, Dr. Black served on active duty for 7 years and deployed twice, including as Chief of Medical Staff at the Transit Center at Manas in Kyrgyzstan and as the flight surgeon for an F-22 squadron in Okinawa, Japan.
Over the past decade, Dr. Black has worked extensively with medical device and digital health startups, helping translate clinical insights into new technologies and guiding early-stage companies through product development, regulatory strategy, and commercialization. At EnMed, he helps lead the development of the “physicianeer” model - training physicians with engineering expertise who are equipped to design and implement solutions to complex healthcare challenges.
Dr. Black is a named inventor on more than 70 international patents related to medical technologies, serves as Chairman of the Board of LifeGift, and frequently speaks on physician-led innovation, medical technology development, and the future of healthcare education.
