Biosketch — Nai-Chen Cheng, MD, PhD
Dr. Nai-Chen Cheng is Professor of Surgery and Associate Dean for International Affairs at the College of Medicine, National Taiwan University. Meanwhile, he also serves as the Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at National Taiwan University Hospital. He is a board-certified plastic surgeon whose clinical expertise lies in breast aesthetic and reconstructive surgery as well as the treatment of complex wounds. Dr. Cheng received his MD, master’s degree in Clinical Medicine, and PhD in Biomedical Engineering from National Taiwan University, followed by surgical fellowship training at Duke University Medical Center in the United States. His unique background in both clinical and translational research has positioned him at the forefront of regenerative medicine and reconstructive surgery.
His research focuses on wound infection, regenerative healing, and the application of adipose-derived stem cells in tissue repair. He has published extensively in high-impact journals such as Biomaterials, Acta Biomaterialia, Stem Cell Research & Therapy, and Stem Cells Translational Medicine. His pioneering work in biofilm and stem cell research has advanced the field of regenerative wound healing, and his contributions have been recognized with multiple international and national awards, including the National Innovation Award, the American College of Surgeons International Guest Scholar Award, and the Outstanding Research Award, from the Taiwan Surgical Association.
In addition to his academic and clinical achievements, Dr. Cheng has served as Director of the Taiwan Society of Plastic Surgery, Executive Director of the Formosan Association of Regenerative Medicine, and editorial board member of several international journals. As a dedicated educator and researcher, he has received multiple teaching awards from National Taiwan University. Through his leadership in clinical practice, academic research, and international collaboration, Dr. Cheng continues to advance the frontiers of plastic surgery and regenerative medicine.
